While a Unilock paver walkway is designed to handle freeze/thaw changes, regular maintenance is crucial to keep the surface pristine. Use a broom with soft bristles, mild soap, and water, or a gentle power wash to clean off dirt, mud, leaves, and spills that accumulate on your walkway. Be sure to avoid wire brushes, which can scratch the surface.
In winter, ice can make your walkway slippery and dangerous. Use calcium-based products or sodium chloride to melt ice safely, and when shoveling snow, use plastic tools instead of metal to avoid scratching or scuffing the surface of your pavers. If you wish to avoid shoveling altogether, consider installing a heated system beneath your walkway. This prevents water from freezing on the surface during winter.
