The owners of this modern bungalow-style home aimed to extend their living space outdoors in line with their home’s architecture and color scheme. To fulfill this vision, they opted for an elevated patio deck, seamlessly integrating vertical features and biophilic design principles. This decision resulted in an inviting outdoor space that not only complements the home’s aesthetic but also enhances overall health, comfort, and well-being by harmonizing hardscaping with natural green elements.
This elevated patio deck features a combination of vertical features and biophilic design elements, to create a visually enticing outdoor gathering space. A rooftop pergola naturally extends out from the home to cover an outdoor kitchen and quaint circular table. Featuring two distinct grilling zones, the outdoor kitchen was constructed using Unilock Lineo™ Dimensional Stone in Granite with a darker accent band of Holland Premier™ in Dark Charcoal, with landscape lighting installed under the countertop to help illuminate the outdoor kitchen for night-time cooking retreats.
The main paver bed of the elevated deck features Unilock Beacon Hill™ Smooth in Granite Fusion. The homeowners chose to maximize patio coverage while minimizing material usage, opting for the XL-size pavers. These larger pavers were laid in a running bond pattern that aligned parallel to the home’s exterior. Selected not only for their size but also their durability, Beacon Hill Smooth was manufactured with EnduraColor™ technology, which delivers a more refined surface that resists the appearance of fading over time. Wrapping around the perimeter of the patio and serving as an accent band for the patio’s outdoor fire feature, Unilock Limestone in Black River was chosen. The outdoor fire feature serves as a focal point to the extended patio’s design and was built using Lineo Dimensional Stone and Holland Premier, achieving visual symmetry with the outdoor kitchen. To cozy up the space, a loveseat and swivel chairs with plush cushions invite relaxation by the fire under the evening sky. Nearby, a circular egg seat offers a quiet nook for unwinding with a good book and a cup of coffee on lazy summer days.
