Sherbourne Common, Waterfront Toronto is a stunning park that has transformed a former industrial area into a public green space on the lake. It was recently just named one of the World’s Best New Parks and was also honoured by Construction Canada for its use of hardscape.
Not too long ago I went and visited the Sherbourne Common park to check out the Unilock products that were installed. It was a delightful experience as I saw families with children enjoying this innovative, artful, and modern park. The transformation of this old industrial site into an urban green-space was heart warming in the sense that it was now so peaceful and that it provided a place that people could go and enjoy the outdoors in a park that delivers so much to the visual senses. It showed me that once again that the architects and designers who worked on this project not only have a vision for the park, but a vision for the City of Toronto. It is also the first park in Canada to integrate a neighborhood-wide storm water treatment facility into its design in order to protect the waters of lake Ontario.
I had the privilege of working with Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg in the development of the Series 3000 textured pavers to be used on this site. The long plank-like pavers provide a directional yet calming feel to the walkways.
Sherbourne Common is definitely a destination in Toronto that you should check out! The water features, the plantings, the lighting and of course the Unilock pavers make this park into a very special place where people will connect with friends, family and neighbors.
