Winnetka Park District worked with The Lakota Group and Gewalt Hamilton Associates on the first portion of a Master Plan enhancement of the Park District’s Skokie Playfield Complex. As this location is almost entirely within the floodplain, the Park Board and the Village (through their Environment & Forestry Committee) challenged the design team to integrate ‘green’ initiatives wherever possible and cost effective. The project included the enhancement of several turf fields and creation of a large multi-purpose synthetic field where there was an opportunity to collect and store rainwater in the aggregate base material below grade. In keeping with the ‘green’ request, Eco-Priora™ permeable pavers were chosen creating benefits for the park and adjacent properties during storm events.
