This wall is one assembled by Unilock Authorized Contractor, Knutsen Landscaping, Inc. of Conestoga, PA. The wall was built using the U-Cara Multi-Face Wall System with Pitched Face Fascia Panels and U-Cara Universal Coping. To secure the coping to the top course of the wall, as well as to the matching steps, Knutsen Landscaping, Inc. used Loctite PL Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive.

The first step to applying any adhesive is to ensure that both surfaces are free of dust, debris, oil and moisture. On dry, uncontaminated surfaces, this can be achieved by giving both surfaces a brush down, as demonstrated by the Knutsen Landscaping, Inc. employee above.

The concrete adhesive can then be applied. Knutsen Landscaping, Inc. applies the PL Premium Construction Adhesive in lines that follow the direction of the water flow. This prevents water from becoming trapped beneath the coping.

The coping is then gently lowered in place and pressed down to create the bond between the wall and the coping. It’s worth noting that the coping is adhered to the U-Cara backer units and not to the fascia panels. This ensures that the fascia panels can still be replaced, should the homeowner wish to change the look of the wall in future.

Once the final coping unit has been slotted into place, the wall and step system is complete. If care has been taken not to mess adhesive, there should be minimal clean up required.

One of the advantages of using this method of thin glue lines in the direction of the water flow is that the adhesive does not squeeze out between the coping and the wall units.

A different method is demonstrated above by Unilock Authorized Contractor, Utopian Landscapes, LLC. of Harrisburg, PA. Because they’re installing Lineo Dimensional Stone, shadow spacers are used to give the construction clean, dark shadow lines. Lineo Dimensional Stone from Unilock is the only wall unit that uses these to achieve this signature gap. The shadow spacers also serve the purpose of preventing water from seeping between the wall units, while containing the adhesive.

With the spacers in place, and three liberal dabs of SRW Rapid-Set Polyurethane Adhesive applied, the wall unit is aligned and pressed into place. The excess adhesive can be allowed to overflow to aid in the placing of the next wall unit.
