Natural Stone and Unilock’s Richcliff Pavers Meet to Create an Organic Oyster Bay Cove, NY Poolside Landscape

Organic, sweeping curves are central to this soothing backyard poolside setting. Further dimension is added by incorporating multiple levels, and the vertical structure of a custom-built outdoor fireplace.

The round spa, situated on an upper-level patio, is perfectly in keeping with the curved lines of this design. It’s positioning allows easy access to both pool and nearby seating area – perfect for mid-summer night dips. The spa overflow feeds directly into the pool, creating a miniature waterfall feature that contributes to both pool aeration and atmosphere.

Natural flagstone is used to clad the vertical drop to the pool. This extra height makes the upper patio the perfect diving platform and is positioned to protect the surrounding patios from splashes. The purpose of the multiple levels extends to creating subtle division for distinguishing the various areas, keeping the fireplace and poolside patios separate. A short flight of steps on either side of the pool maintains flow and accessibility between the outdoor “rooms”.

Also on the upper level, with a vantage point of pool and spa, is a grill island featuring flagstone veneer matching that of the pool’s drop. In placing the kitchen area at this point, the chef is positioned close enough to the entertainment areas to remain part of the social activities, while out of the way of swimmers and possible splashing.

Award-winning architectural landscape design firm, Platinum Site Development from Long Island specifically chose Unilock’s Richcliff pavers in the Pebble Taupe color variation as a base for this hardscaping design. The combination of warm coloring and a randomized laying pattern contribute to the organic nature of this design while providing both elegance and strength. To complement the pavers, Unilock’s Brussels Fullnose Coping in Sandstone was used to finish off the pool, spa and steps. The rounded edges once again highlight the gentle shapes used to form the pool and hardscaped area.

Not to be overlooked are the colorful plantings and carefully layered flowerbeds providing finer detail to balance the bold shapes and rugged surface of the stone. Tall evergreen trees lining the boundary of the property provide privacy for the pool area and patios while maintaining greenery throughout the year.

The entire design comes together to complement the natural curved slope of the landscape and unites the traditional architecture of the home with its surroundings.
