Gurda Landscaping LLC Make Use of Innovative Drainage Technique to Create Stunning Multi-level Patio in Westtown, NY
Westtown, NY, based Unilock Authorized Contractor, Gurda Landscaping LLC, considers this project to be their favorite one to date, and it’s easy to see why. This multi-level area offers a taste of everything – Tuscan-style outdoor cooking, luxury al fresco dining, and a fire pit area with gorgeous views of greenery.
The patio floor consists of Beacon Hill Flagstone in the Tuscany color option, around which a double sailor course of Desert Valley and Tuscany has been laid to demarcate individual areas. The patio’s various areas are further defined using low walls and planters built using Unilock Estate Wall in the Sierra color option. This has been used in combination with Lineo Dimensional Stone which has been included in the form of the fire pit and grill island. The vertical structures all make use of Unilock Limestone Coping. The completed project stands in stark contrast with the dilapidated deck which Gurda Landscaping tore down before reimagining the space.

Another feature that sets this project apart is its method of dealing with inclement weather. Although there is not a single visible drain throughout the entire project, the patio has a unique and effective safeguard against flooding. Along the seating walls, spacers have been used in the double border to make it permeable, while the body of the patio makes use of polysand in the joints. As a result, when it rains, all the water runs to the border, disappears into the joints, and drains through the clear running ¾” open grade base on which the entire patio has been built. Consequently, the patio remains free of pooling without destroying the aesthetics of the space with unsightly drainage pipes.
