Cedar Ridge Landscapes Use Richcliff and Copthorne Pavers for Quaint Front Yard Hardscape in Old Bethpage, NY
Cedar Ridge Landscapes have complemented the Old English style of this Old Bethpage, NY, home’s facade with an equally quaint and traditional choice of pavers. Richcliff pavers in the Dawn Mist color option perfectly match the grey-blue of the home’s roof and navy front door, while the Copthorne pavers – in a three color blend of Burgundy Red, Old Oak and Burnt Clay – complement the brick of the home’s facade.
Together, these pavers form the ideal combination of relaxed and historical, creating a welcoming front yard hardscape that encourages guests to stroll beneath the flowering branches of this front yard’s cherry blossom tree to get to the front door.
The hardscape includes a walkway to the front of the home, a driveway, and a walkway connecting the two. Between the two, Copthorne pavers have been used to create a rug-like section at the front door, forming a kind of permanent welcome mat. This section has been achieved using an eye-catching herringbone pattern with a soldier course border.
The walkway pavers have been locked into place using mortar edging. Although this is more labor intensive than modern, hard plastic edging, mortar edging is a more traditional approach and offers a greater sense of permanence. The mortar edges are carefully smoothed over and sloped at about a 45 degree angle, leaving approximately an inch of paver at the top. This helps to ensure that grass will be able to grow right up to the edge of the pavers and conceal the edging.
The project demonstrates Cedar Ridge Landscapes’ willingness to take into consideration the existing character of the home, most notably the historical features of the architecture and the stunning cherry blossom tree that dominates the yard, and work with them to create a unified and harmonious space.
