Unilock Authorized Contractor, Antonelli Landscape created this stunning patio in Rochester Hills, MI using Umbriano pavers with a Copthorne border. The homeowners were looking for an impressive new patio design that really stood out. Aiming to exceed expectations, the contractor came back with a design that included not only a water feature but an elaborate star motif as well. The homeowners fell in love with the design and awarded Antonelli Landscape the project.

The patio flooring uses Umbriano pavers in Summer Wheat, while the star is created with Winter Marvel, Midnight Sky and Autumn Sunset colors. The inset border and coordinating wall bands are created with Copthorne pavers in Burnt Clay. Their rich, off-burgundy color provides a striking contrast to the wheat colored pavers and also complements the grey and coral tones of the star.

Knowing the clients wanted a patio with an elevated look, the contractor selected Umbriano pavers for their granite-like appearance. The non-slip surface of the pavers features Unilock EnduraColor Plus Architectural Finish, ensuring that the colors remain true. Umbriano pavers resist chlorine, pool salt and de-icing salts, making them ideal for patios, pool decks, driveways and even commercial purposes. For best joint stabilization, use a dry joint sand with a water or solvent based joint sand stabilizer sealer.

The complex star pattern did create some challenges for the contractor. But the experienced masons were able to make adjustments along the way to successfully recreate the initial design.  A lot of hard work went into this project, but the spectacular end results were worth it.

The masonry fence enclosing the patio consists of substantial stone balusters flanked by dry-stacked square columns. The columns are constructed with the Brussels Dimensional System with Brussels Fullnose coping, both in the Sandstone color option. A double band of Burnt Clay Copthorne pavers creates a consistent look between the masonry wall, water feature and patio.

The fence surrounds an alcove containing a sheer descent waterfall which makes an eye-catching focal point. The taller masonry wall behind the waterfall includes an inset diamond, also made with Burnt Clay Copthorne pavers. Unobtrusive hardscaping lights mounted under the coping of both the fountain and column make the patio functional at night and help increase safety.

Brussels Block Dimensional System features our most popular tumbled concrete wall units. Their classic appearance and five color choices will complement almost any landscape design style. The extremely versatile blocks are available in rectangular and tapered units with coordinating coping stones. With three different sizes of tapered units, Brussels Block makes it easier than ever to construct curved walls.
